Where to Go Trout Fishing Near San Antonio (2024)

Sharing is caring!

So you want to go trout fishing, but you’re in Texas?

No problem, especially if you live in or are visiting the San Antonio area during the fall or winter months.

Texas Parks & Wildlife stocks ponds, lakes and rivers across the state with hatchery rainbow trout from the late fall through the late winter every year. And, you’re in luck, there are usually about a dozen excellent trout fishing spots in Greater San Antonio.

Among them is the Guadalupe River near New Braunfels. It’s the most famous trout stream in Texas and also the most heavily stocked trout water in the state every year.

But “The Guad” is not the only game in town, as you’ll see from the stocking schedule we’ve developed below with the latest TPWD stocking plans.

The area we cover in this article includes Bexar County with San Antonio as well as Atascosa, Bandera, Comal, Guadalupe, Kendall, Medina, and Wilson counties.

Several of those counties have stocked waters, and everyone in the area is within a reasonable drive from freshly stocked trout if you time your trip using the schedule below.

We also suggest you check out the resources we’ve listed below the stocking schedule. There, you’ll find a link to our comprehensive guide to all things trout fishing in Texas, including the top spots and the best techniques.
