The California Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock 16 local fishing lakes with rainbow trout during the second week of December.
Many of these same lakes were stocked earlier in November and will be refreshed with aggressive hatchery-raised rainbows during the week that begins December 8.
The following spots are primarily small lakes and ponds in public parks. An exception here is that Puddingstone Lake already was stocked during the week of Thanksgiving and likely will be stocked again soon, but it’s not on the schedule for this round.
Stocked trout are aggressive biters, hitting bait, lures and flies within hours after the truck drops them into local waters.
Since trout are such willing biters, I would anticipate that fishing will be best in the first few days and up to a week or more after each spot is stocked. However, expect catch rates to fall off rapidly as anglers bring home the majority of trout for dinner.
These waters are pretty simple to access and fish, but we do have some additional pointers for some of the waters, including Hansen Dam Lake, El Dorado Park Lake, and Legg Lakes. Click the links on the listings below to access those articles on the Best Fishing in America website.
