14 L.A. County Fishing Lakes Getting More Trout Very Soon

Sharing is caring!

Hoping to reel in a trout near L.A. this coming week? Read on to get hooked up with a winter rainbow during the week of Presidents’ Day.

The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is set to stock 14 local fishing lakes with hatchery-raised trout during the coming week.

If you’re looking for your best odds as the local winter trout-stocking season winds toward a close, the coming week should be as good as any.

According to the schedule, trout will be stocked between February 16 and 22. Which day those trout will be delivered is to be determined, especially during a holiday week, but the sudden arrival of anglers casting along the shores of your local fishing hole is a pretty good indicator.

The lakes listed below are among the most frequently stocked during the coldest months, the only time of year these energetic fish can survive in lowland waters long enough to aggressively take your bait, lure, or fly.

Most of the lakes on this week’s stocking plan are smaller bodies of water in city and suburban parks, with the exception of the larger Puddingstone Lake, one of the most well-known fishing destinations in the county.

The waters on the schedule have been stocked multiple times since late fall. The last time for most of them was just a couple weeks ago, so they may have some survivors left when you read this. But your odds will increase greatly once the fish truck makes another delivery during the week ahead.

Once stocked, trout will be eager to bite, striking at bait and chasing down lures and flies with enthusiasm.

However, with their aggressive feeding habits, anglers will be putting plenty on stringers and the hot bite won’t last long. Many of these fish will likely be caught within a week or two, so it’s best to get out there early.

Trout fishing in these waters is fairly straightforward, but if you’re looking for extra tips, some of the lakes below include links to detailed articles on the Best Fishing in America website to help you land more fish.
