These 9 Los Angeles County Fishing Lakes Will Be Stocked with Trout This Coming Week

Sharing is caring!

The stocking trucks keep stopping at Los Angeles County weeks during the heart of the local-area winter trout-fishing season.

This week there are nine lakes close to home that the California Department of Fish and Wildlife will stock with fresh batches of hatchery-raised rainbow trout.

Stocked trout are a cold-season opportunity in these parts, as trout won’t survive the warm season in the lower-elevation lakes of Southern California. They are stocked to be caught (and often caught quickly), so if this kind fishing appeals to you, now’s the time.

Rainbow trout are easy to catch with various baits, lures, or artificial flies. Check out our basic trout-fishing guide for any more details you might need to have success. We also have a fishing with PowerBait article that might help you catch fish with probably the easiest tactic around.

Besides the lakes below that will be stocked in the coming week, the following Los Angeles-area spots were scheduled to be stocked just last week: Belvedere Lake, Hollenbeck Park Lake, La Mirada Lake, and Lincoln Park Lake.

And then the week starting January 18 will bring additional stocking, at least to Legg Lakes.

Most waters stocked during the cooler months around Los Angeles are small lakes or ponds in public parks. These are not the high-mountain lakes or massive reservoirs that can require a much larger commitment and planning. One larger but still close-to-home exception that is regularly stocked with hatchery trout is Puddingstone Lake.
