There’s still time to catch a flash of silver this winter as the California Department of Fish and Wildlife plans to stock 14 lakes in Los Angeles County with hatchery trout this coming week.
With cool March weather in the forecast, the waters should remain in prime condition for trout, which don’t fare well in these parts once the weather warms into spring.
But for a limited time, expect these aggressive fish to bite your bait or lash out at your lures and artificial flies.
According to the schedule, this next trout planting will occur during the week of March 9 to 15. Expect anglers to show up soon after!
Your best odds for catching trout will be within days of the stocking, as these fish tend to get caught out pretty quickly. If you’re patient, you may still be able to scratch out some trout for a bit longer, but your odds will drop daily.
Most of these Los Angeles County lakes are on the small side and located in city parks. Also on the list is Puddingstone Lake, one of the county’s larger fishing holes.
The waters listed below tend to get stocked several times during cooler months, including in mid-February.
Don’t overcomplicate trout fishing. However, we do provide additional trout-catching tips for some of the more popular lakes below (click the locations with links for those) and a larger but still simple guide to trout fishing at the end of this article.
