Nebraska Lakes Stocked With Lots of Trout this Spring (List)

Nebraska lakes and other waters are being freshly stocked with thousands of rainbow and tiger trout this week and throughout March and April.

The plants actually started ahead of the opening day March 9 at Trout Lake within Two Rivers State Recreation Area.

Many other lakes, city ponds, and streams will be stocked with trout in the coming weeks.

The Nebraska Game and Parks Commission will release hatchery rainbow trout in March according to the following schedule. The numbers of trout expected to be planted also is included.

March 11

The NGPC already has started stocking smaller numbers of tiger trout, which are a sterile hybrid between brown and brook trout. Tiger trout are released at:

  • Chadron State Park Pond (500 tiger trout stocked)
  • Bessey Pond, Nebraska National Forest, Halsey (500)
  • Alliance Golf Course Pond (300)
  • Curtis Golf Course Pond (150)
  • Rock Creek State Recreation Area Lake (1,000)
