The California Department of Fish and Wildlife is stocking 14 Southern California lakes and ponds with hatchery trout this week.
Fishing will be best in the few days following a planting, so be sure to plan your trip this week or into the weekend, if at all possible.
Bait fishing is very popular for stocked rainbow trout. PowerBait is a popular choice, but good ol’ worms, salmon eggs, or marshmallow baits will do the job as well.
Anglers who prefer more active techniques can cast and retrieve lures such as spinners or spoons. Fly anglers also get in on the act.
Listed by county, below are the waters CDFW plans to stock with fresh trout this week. If they are linked, follow that link to a more comprehensive guide on the Best Fishing in America website to fishing at that location.
Also being stocked this week are sections 4 and 5 of the Kern River in Kern County (and some in Tulare County). See our Kern River Fishing Guide for details on how to fish this great trout stream.
